Should I bring my own mat to class?
Please bring your own mat for all Hot Yoga classes. Our studios are equipped with mats, bolsters, blankets, blocks, straps, and wedges for your use.
Do I have to keep my shirt on during yoga class?
Yoga attire should be loose or stretchy fitted to allow for movement. As Hot Yoga is like a day at the beach, it is within reason for gentlemen to remove their shirts if they desire. Women may practice with a modest sports bra if they desire.
I’m new to yoga, do you have any tips?
Listen to your body. You should not feel any sharp, shooting, or pinching pains while practicing yoga. If you do, come out of the pose immediately and signal to the instructor so they can help you adjust the posture.
Yoga is practiced in bare feet or yoga socks.
Wear clothing that does not restrict movement. Loose or fitted stretchy clothing is best.
Practice on an empty stomach. (Allow at least 2 hours after a large meal before practicing).
Come clean to your practice. Avoid wearing perfume, cologne, or essential oils to class. Be mindful of odors such as smoke or body odor, as these can be impact the experience of other students.
Heart condition? Injured? Be sure to let your instructor know if you have a heart condition or any other serious ailment before class starts. Check with your doctor if you have health concerns.
What is proper class etiquette?
Timeliness: If possible, please be in the studio before class begins. If you are late, please enter the room quietly as to not disturb the other students and the teacher in class. It’s best to gently close the door behind you, slowly and quietly roll out your mat and breathe your way into the class. If you must leave early, please leave as softly as you arrived. If you are more than ten minutes late to class, please choose not to interrupt class.
Ahimsa: A Sanskrit word meaning non-violence. Treat everyone including yourself, front desk staff, managers, teachers, and other students with kindness, compassion, and respect. Practice yoga without harming your body, not forcing any movements.
Saucha: A Sanskrit word meaning order, tidiness, or cleanliness. Please leave all of your belongings on the shelves in the foyer (your shoes, keys and other small items). Please see that you return any props to their original home. We strive to create a safe and sacred space and would appreciate your attention to cleaning up before you leave. The Clouds Yoga Studio requests that all hot yoga students bring their own mat and mat cover if needed. We offer small and medium towels for your use. Please return the towels to the designated towel drop box located throughout the facility.
Cell phones: No cell phones in class. Cell phones should be left outside of the studio with the ringers turned off during classes. Our locker room has day lockers available for your use, as well as personal lockers to rent. Please see our wonderful front desk staff for locker rental.
